The Rise of Jacob Misiorowski
Jacob Misiorowski’s reputation is only getting bigger.
In a recent game against the Phillies, the Brewers’ young pitcher kicked things off with a strikeout and managed to break one of his own records in their 6-0 win.
He registered an astonishing 164.5 mph on the radar gun, achieving a foul-tip strikeout against Philadelphia’s leadoff hitter, Kyle Schwarber.
This pitch marked the fastest ever thrown by a starting pitcher since pitch tracking started in 2008. It surpassed his own record of 163.4 mph from a game against the Cardinals last May.
Misiorowski proceeded to finish the inning strong, striking out Trea Turner and Bryce Harper with nearly identical fastballs of 163.5 mph and 164.1 mph, respectively—truly an impressive start.
And he didn’t stop there.
Misiorowski dominated the Phillies lineup throughout the game, racking up 15 strikeouts and allowing just a single hit, which was Schwarber’s single in the fourth inning. This led to a shutout performance.
It’s been an incredible beginning to his 2026 season—his first MLB appearance with Milwaukee was just a year ago.
As he stepped onto the field for Friday’s game, Misiorowski boasted a league-high 116 strikeouts and a remarkable 1.50 ERA in just 13 starts, placing him firmly in the running for the National League Cy Young Award.
He really burst onto the scene last summer, earning a spot on the National League All-Star team after pitching only five games and accumulating 25 2/3 innings.
However, not everyone was thrilled with that selection, especially in Philadelphia.
Phillies left-hander Christopher Sanchez was left off the roster despite his strong performance, which included 107 2/3 innings with a 7-2 record and a 2.49 ERA. He was one of the players under consideration to replace Misiorowski.
Interestingly, Sanchez is now one of the few pitchers in the league performing at a level comparable to Misiorowski, with a 1.54 ERA and 113 strikeouts. This creates a compelling discussion for both the NL All-Star Game and the Cy Young Award race.
