MLB Excitement Amid Upcoming World Cup
Next month, soccer will take center stage with the World Cup kicking off, but baseball fans are buzzing with excitement for the MLB games ahead. It’s getting quite hot out there.
So, what would it be like to witness the fastest pitch ever thrown by a starting pitcher?
That record now belongs to Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers, who unleashed an astonishing 164.5 mph pitch. It’s quite the cannon he has on his right side.
During a recent game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Misiorowski faced off against Kyle Schwarber in the first inning.
The 2-2 pitch seemed to catch just the edge of the low outside corner of the strike zone. Schwarber made contact on a check swing, but catcher William Contreras managed to snag the ball.
As Schwarber debated the call, the spotlight shifted—the speed of the pitch had everyone’s attention.
No, your eyes weren’t playing tricks on you. The score display indicated 165 mph. However, it was officially clocked at 164.5 mph, marking it as the fastest pitch ever from a starting pitcher.
Interestingly, Schwarber might not have even recognized just how fast that pitch was. He faced five pitches all exceeding 163 mph, with one of them—his third—registering at 104 mph.
While this is undoubtedly impressive, it’s essential to note that it doesn’t surpass the most violent pitch in MLB history, a title still held by Aroldis Chapman of the Boston Red Sox.
Back in 2010, Chapman threw a blazing 165.8 mph fastball during his rookie year with the Cincinnati Reds. He also boasts the second-fastest pitch, which reached 165.7 mph in 2016 as a member of the Chicago Cubs.
