Jeb Bush Discusses Iranian Drones and Threat to Cuba
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush recently acknowledged President Donald Trump’s role in undermining the Iranian regime. However, he raised concerns about the growing threat, emphasizing that Cuba now possesses hundreds of explosive drones manufactured in Iran.
Speaking at a Union Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) event, Bush highlighted the Iranian Shahed-136 drone, a low-cost yet lethal weapon. These drones have been supplied to Russia for deployment in Ukraine, and they have also been actively used throughout the Middle East.
“We have undoubtedly diminished Iran’s capacity to cause harm in the region,” said Bush, who is the UANI chairman. He expressed his approval of the efforts made during the Trump administration.
Bush added, “I want to underline that reports suggest Cuba has around 300 of these drones,” pointing toward the display of the drones.
He clarified that while the U.S. has strong defense capabilities and can protect its homeland, the existence of such drones still represents a significant threat.
Alongside Bush was Republican Representative Carlos Gimenez from Florida, who warned that the Shahed drone isn’t just a tool of terror but also represents a shift in modern warfare strategies. “This is the face of war,” he remarked, noting the enhanced effectiveness of drones thanks to advancements in artificial intelligence.
Gimenez referenced the Ukraine war to illustrate the efficacy of drones, saying that Ukraine’s military has developed millions of small drones for defensive roles, achieving considerable success.
Mark Wallace, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and current UANI CEO, also spoke at the gathering. He labeled the Shahed drone as a “pervasive weapon of mass destruction in contemporary combat.” Wallace emphasized the dire impact of these drones, stating that they have targeted U.S. allies and military personnel in the Middle East.
Wallace later shared with a news outlet that the Cuban acquisition of drones occurred several years ago, predating the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran.
