Jake Paul Secures Another Win Against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

This week, Jake Paul celebrated his second victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Paul secured a unanimous decision in the WBA cruiserweight rankings during their match over the weekend. Just a few days later, however, Chavez Jr. found himself in trouble with the law when he was arrested by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE).

True to form, Paul had a lot to say in the lead-up to the fight, and following the news of Chavez Jr.’s arrest, he made one last, impactful statement by dropping the microphone.

After the arrest was made public, Paul took to X to share his thoughts, posting an American flag emoji. His business partner, Naxa Vidalian, later mentioned in an interview that they were completely unaware of Chavez Jr.’s legal issues prior to the arrest.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Chavez Jr.’s arrest, indicating that he is currently being processed for “quick removal from the US.” The arrest took place in January 2024, where Chavez Jr. faced charges for possession of an offensive weapon and related offenses. He has a prior conviction for driving under the influence in 2012.

Additionally, there’s an active arrest warrant in Mexico over suspicions regarding his involvement with the Sinaloa cartel, particularly concerning trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives.

Chavez Jr. initially entered the U.S. on a B2 tourist visa in August 2023, which expired in February 2024. He later applied for legal permanent residency based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen associated with the Sinaloa cartel, adding another layer to his already complex situation. Media reports indicate that this citizen was linked to Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, a notorious figure in the drug trade.

In December 2024, U.S. immigration authorities flagged Chavez Jr. as a “severe public safety threat.” It was noted that he re-entered the country at the port of San Isidro. However, his status quickly changed after authorities discovered multiple fraudulent statements in his residency application, leading to his classification as removable from the U.S. on June 27.

Chavez Jr. is a former WBC middleweight champion and the son of the legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, who won multiple world titles in various weight classes. Following his recent win, Jake Paul now ranks 14th in the WBA cruiserweight standings and is eligible for a title shot.
