CNN Anchor Discusses Trump and Biden’s Health Scandals

On the “Pod Save America” podcast, CNN’s Jake Tapper shared his thoughts on why his show often points out President Donald Trump’s shortcomings. He suggested it’s partly because Trump hasn’t sufficiently examined former President Joe Biden’s decline.

Tapper noted some of the inadequacies in his own reporting while also discussing his book, which looks into Biden’s physical and mental challenges. In a conversation with host Tommy Vieter, Tapper reflected on how the media portrayed Trump’s moments of vulnerability, like falling asleep in meetings or stumbling in public.

“We talk about this constantly on our show. And I think a lot of it has to do with what we witnessed with Biden. We raised questions but, honestly, not enough,” Tapper admitted. He emphasized that concerns about a president’s age are valid, particularly when that president is in their 80s. “It’s a recurring theme for us,” he added.

Meanwhile, on his show, comedian Adam Carolla criticized the mainstream media for appearing to downplay Biden’s issues while focusing more on Trump’s alleged cognitive decline. He stated that this approach undermines the credibility of outlets like CNN and programs like “The View.” Carolla suggested these organizations should refrain from discussing a president’s mental health, considering their past coverage of Biden.

The New York Times reported, as of late November, that Trump’s public and domestic appearances have decreased compared to his first term, although international travel and media appearances have increased. The article titled “Signs of Fatigue: President Trump Faces the Reality of Aging in Office” explored these trends.

In response, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt criticized the Times for questioning Trump’s health after defending Biden during his term. She challenged the media to cite any inaccuracies in their reporting on Biden’s performance. Levitt stated, “This is unfortunate, especially considering it’s the same outlet that said Biden was thriving,” referencing Biden’s stumble while boarding Air Force One.

Levitt also pointed out that an MRI scan from October indicated Trump is in good health overall. She remarked that the media has long underestimated Biden’s deterioration, particularly with the high-stakes debate against Trump approaching in June 2024.
