James Carville criticizes Jasmine Crockett as an unsuitable candidate for the Texas Senate

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville stated on Thursday that Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas may not be the strongest candidate for the upcoming election. He expressed concerns that some of her controversial remarks could negatively impact her chances.

Carville, who co-hosts the “Politics War Room” podcast, has a history of critiquing the Democratic Party’s messaging, believing it has cost them elections. Previously, he highlighted that Crockett often talks more about herself than her constituents, which goes against a key political principle.

During a podcast episode, co-host Al Hunt shared a listener’s question, asking why Carville considers James Talarico, another Democratic candidate for the Texas Senate, to be more viable than Crockett.

Carville commented on one of Crockett’s more controversial statements, where she referred to Hispanic Trump supporters as having a “slave mentality,” suggesting that such comments could be unwise and damaging in a general election context.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Crockett made this comparison when discussing Hispanic Trump supporters’ concerns about immigration. She attempted to clarify her statement during an interview with CNN, but the damage seems to be done.

Additionally, Carville criticized her comments regarding Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who is in a wheelchair. He suggested that making fun of Abbott in that context was inappropriate, saying it was offensive and stemmed from trying to appeal to a radical online audience.

Crockett had called Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels,” which drew bipartisan disapproval. She explained her comments by accusing Abbott of using fear tactics against vulnerable communities and transporting immigrants into areas led by Black mayors.

Carville maintained that Talarico is not only a stronger candidate but would likely support a similar progressive agenda. He emphasized his support for Talarico, stating that while he likes Crockett, winning the election is what truly matters.

“If it’s important for you to win, and it is for me, you need to back Jim Talarico,” Carville stated simply.

Requests for comment from Rep. Crockett have been sent out.
