Political Strategist Comments on Abuse Allegations Against Rep. McQuiver
Democratic strategist James Kerrville stated on Tuesday that the accusations against New Jersey Rep. Ramonica McQuiver, who allegedly assaulted federal officers outside an ice facility, are troubling. While appearing on MSNBC’s “The Beat With Ari Melber,” Kerrville suggested that the motives behind these allegations may be influenced by the Trump administration.
“In my view, I think they pursued her, and I believe her race plays a role in this,” Kerrville remarked, emphasizing his perspective without providing evidence.
New Jersey Democrats Deny Assault Claims
While being pressed by Melber to substantiate his claims, Kerrville acknowledged the lack of evidence, stating it reflected “what they were doing.” He further criticized the narrative suggesting that those being targeted are somehow representative of larger issues, stating, “They talk about American blood and blood poisoning, and they talk about this kind of thing.” He reiterated his uncertainty, saying, “I don’t have any evidence, but if you ask me what I think, well, that’s how I feel.” Kerrville also suggested he was accused of deflecting attention from broader economic concerns.
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded to the allegations, saying, “No one can attack and escape ice agents, regardless of their identity. President Trump is dedicated to enforcing immigration laws and supporting law enforcement.”
Earlier this month, McQuiver participated in a protest with two other Congress members at the Delaney Hall Detention Center, claiming Congress had an obligation to oversee conditions there.
U.S. Attorney Alina Haba from New Jersey emphasized that no one is exempt from the law, regardless of position. “This office is committed to ensuring justice fairly,” she noted.
Christie Noem from the Department of Homeland Security stated that individuals, regardless of their political affiliation or status, face consequences if they assault law enforcement, referencing McQuiver’s case.
Reports indicated that McQuiver allegedly attacked an officer by forcefully striking him and attempting to restrain him. Following an arrest of Mayor Las Barak, she reportedly pushed another officer, using her forearm to hit him.
On Wednesday, Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a resolution aimed at expelling McQuiver from Congress.
