House Oversight Chairman Discusses Biden’s Health and Staff Summons
On Thursday, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer appeared on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” mentioning that four former staff members of President Biden and former White House doctor Kevin O’Connor would be called in for questioning. He emphasized that the committee is determined to hold “unelected bureaucrats” from the previous administration accountable.
Biden’s mental health has been a topic of much discussion, especially with new insights from a book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, which highlights his challenges. During the interview, Watters asked Comer which staff members he intended to summon first amidst Republican calls for accountability regarding Biden’s condition.
“We’ve identified four staffers who were the primary gatekeepers in the Biden White House, and we want them to come in and answer our questions. We’ll also be reaching out to Dr. O’Connor. This is our first step towards issuing a subpoena,” Comer explained.
Biden’s health has also raised concerns, as an announcement on Sunday revealed he has been diagnosed with a “more aggressive form” of prostate cancer, which has already metastasized to his bones.
Watters pressed Comer on the identities of the staff members he plans to question, to which Comer replied, “Well, they’re not exactly names that would be familiar to Fox viewers. They tend to operate behind the scenes. These unelected officials seem to have considerable influence, and perhaps acted as de facto leaders in the administration.”
“The starting point for issuing a subpoena is to extend a genuine invitation for them to respond to our inquiries. If that doesn’t work, we’ll proceed with a subpoena. I agree with prior sentiments concerning the need for a formal subpoena process, but I believe we can manage that within Congress. We intend to conduct thorough interviews and ask all the pertinent questions that journalists like yourself would pose. The public deserves clarity on this, and recent evidence suggests we are gaining momentum,” Comer added.
Concerns about Biden’s mental fitness were voiced even before the 2020 election campaign, and they have only intensified since he took office. Many Democrats and media figures have downplayed such worries, with former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dismissing certain clips as manipulated to portray Biden poorly.
Details from Tapper and Thompson’s book suggest Biden’s health had deteriorated significantly during his presidency, with discussions among aides about potentially needing a wheelchair at one point.
The announcement regarding Biden’s cancer has sparked questions among medical professionals. Following this news, Dr. Ezekiel Emmanuel, a former Obama administration official, stated it’s likely Biden did not just acquire this illness in the past few months, but may have been dealing with it since the beginning of his presidency in 2021. Other doctors and cancer experts have echoed this theory, suggesting Biden might have had cancer during the duration of his term.
