James Van Der Beek shares a video message during the 'Dawson's Creek' reunion

James van der Beek reached out to the “Dawson’s Creek” cast and fans during their reunion on Monday.

The 48-year-old actor had to miss the charity event because of a stomach illness but sent a pre-recorded video instead.

“I’ve been really excited about tonight ever since Michelle Williams said she would organize it,” van der Beek shared. “It’s hard to believe I’m not there and can’t see my fellow castmates.”

He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I wish I could be on stage tonight to thank each and every one of you here. You’re all part of this—cast, crew, everyone—your support is overwhelming, especially from our fans.”

The “Varsity Blues” star mentioned feeling “absolutely humbled” by the effort behind the event, which supports F Cancer and benefits van der Beek, who is currently fighting stage 3 colorectal cancer.

He humorously referred to his substitute, Lynn Manuel Miranda, labeling the “Hamilton” star a “New Up and Comer.”

On Sunday, van der Beek expressed his frustration about missing the reunion due to “two stomach viruses.”

“Despite everything, it’s just not possible for me to be there,” he noted in an Instagram post. “I can’t stand on that stage and represent myself, especially during a time when I need it most.”

The rest of the “Dawson’s Creek” cast, including Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, and Joshua Jackson, performed live readings of episodes from the iconic show.

Van der Beek’s wife, Kimberly, attended the reunion with their children. They even joined the cast on stage to sing “I Don’t Want to Wait,” the theme song by Paula Cole.

The show featured Dawson Leery (played by van der Beek) and celebrated his connection with Steven Spielberg, who made a virtual appearance. Spielberg humorously remarked about (Dawson) making it, hinting at possibly having a “Dawson closet” one day.

The charity event was overseen by “Dawson’s Creek” alumnus Jason Moore and was produced with Michelle Williams and her husband Thomas Kyle, along with the show’s creators.

Williamson remarked that the reunion was actually Williams’ idea. He quickly got on board. “She rallied the team and from there, others joined in the planning,” he explained.

He added that it took some time to finalize a date, but the entire “Dawson’s Creek” family was enthusiastic and ready to contribute during such a significant time.
