Jamie Lee Curtis on Aging and Plastic Surgery

Jamie Lee Curtis has expressed that she doesn’t intend to undergo plastic surgery anytime soon. In a recent interview, the 67-year-old actress shared her views on the topic, stating insightfully that it feels as if a generation of people has been “wiped out” when it comes to embracing their natural appearance.

She elaborated that the changes brought on by surgical procedures or fillers can lead women to lose their true essence over time. Although she personally opposes the idea of enhancing one’s appearance through surgery, she acknowledges that it’s not her place to dictate others’ choices, admitting that “it’s an endless cycle.”

When discussing her privilege as a successful actress, Curtis noted, “I have short gray hair!” suggesting that women can similarly embrace aging. She commented on how it sometimes feels like people might insinuate that her position makes her experience unique, which isn’t entirely the case. “You can’t just rely on genetics,” she pointed out with a bit of humor, referring to the interviewer as she showed her own arm and remarked on its natural state.

Curtis also brought along props to a recent photoshoot, including oversized red wax lips to symbolize her stance on plastic surgery. She’s been vocal about what she refers to as the “genocide” of women’s natural beauty brought about by societal pressures, emphasizing the gravity of her feelings on the subject.

While she’s aware of the actresses who relish fashion and dressing up, Curtis admitted that she has her own struggles with the public image. It’s not exactly her strength. This sense of being uncomfortable was evident in her reflections on past experiences, including a pertinent moment from her early career. At 25, after filming “Perfect,” a director criticized her appearance, making her feel embarrassed, and she confesses she regrets that choice ever since.

In her journey since then, Curtis has become a public advocate for natural beauty, often sharing her story to inspire women. “Plastic surgery isn’t right for me,” she states with conviction. Now, she is gearing up for her role in “Freakier Friday,” a sequel to the beloved 2003 film, set to hit theaters on August 8th.
