Box Office Update: Chainsaw Man Takes the Lead
On its opening day in the United States, *Chainsaw Man: The Movie* secured the top spot at the box office, raking in $8.5 million. According to reports, this Japanese animated film, adapted from a manga series, is dubbed “ultra-violent” yet “surprisingly emotional.” Interestingly, it first premiered in Japan back in September.
Forecasts suggest it could earn about $15.5 million over the weekend. Meanwhile, the romantic drama *Regretting You*, featuring Allison Williams and Scott Eastwood, came in second, earning $5.2 million.
During an interview, Eastwood reflected on the deeper themes of his film. He mentioned, “For me, it’s about the gray areas of life. Everyone has secrets, and things happen in life. So this is a foray into that.”
The Hollywood Reporter reviewed *Regretting You*, based on a novel by Colleen Hoover, and described it as lacking originality, calling its efforts to emotional impact “slow” and “thoughtless.” It’s projected to earn around $13 million this weekend.
In terms of rankings, *Black Phone 2* slid to third place, bringing in $3.79 million.
The biopic *Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere* landed in fourth with $3.5 million. Jeremy Allen White, who portrays Springsteen, expressed that he was moved by the authenticity of the musician’s depiction, noting some musical challenges he faced. He frankly mentioned in an interview, “I don’t play guitar, and I don’t sing.”
This film illustrates Springsteen’s struggles with depression while working on his 1982 album, *Nebraska*. He discussed revisiting those tough times, stating that they often lead to deeper insights and a compelling story.
Finally, *Tron: Ares* dropped three ranks to fifth place, grossing $1.3 million.
