Jason Whitlock: Ben Crump and Kohen Wiley's mother take advantage of the Mississippi tragedy

Tragic Incident at Walmart in Mississippi

A tragic event unfolded at a Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi, when police responded to reports of shoplifting. While confronting two adults, one allegedly drove towards an officer, prompting the officer to fire at the car, which resulted in the death of 1-year-old Cohen Wiley.

Jason Whitlock, a host on Blaze TV, commented on the situation, saying the adults claimed they did not intentionally drive into the police vehicle and that there was no justification for the shots fired. Regardless of the truth, he expressed his sorrow regarding the mother’s reaction, highlighting her sadness.

In a poignant moment, Cohen’s mother, Veresiya Wiley, shared a photo on social media holding a stuffed animal along with a wad of cash during the funeral. Whitlock remarked, “To me, she looks very young, maybe around 15 to 20 years old, but it’s a funeral. What is the message here?”

He continued, expressing mixed feelings about having sympathy for her since she seems so young. “But her mother also appears to be very young, so she’s responding like a child,” he added.

Renowned lawyer Ben Crump quickly addressed the shocking incident, stating on X that the family deserves the truth and announcing his intention to request an independent autopsy for Cohen. He called for the Senatobia Police Department to release body camera footage immediately and emphasized the urgent need for transparency and accountability. “Cohen Wiley will never get to grow up, and his mother will carry this pain forever. We need justice for Cohen!” Crump insisted.

In contrast, Whitlock described Crump as an “ambulance chaser,” criticizing him for his approach and questioning the need for an autopsy since the outcome seems clear: a child has been shot. He also reflected on making poor decisions, suggesting, “If you’re up to no good, don’t involve a child. It seems simple, right?”

Whitlock also expressed concern about the broader societal mindset that people should be responsible for others’ safety. “It’s a toxic mentality that has emerged, which sadly too many people, particularly in the Black community, seem to adopt,” he concluded.
