Jason Whitlock criticizes Karmelo Anthony’s parents: ‘A cycle of misunderstanding’

Carmelo Anthony’s Familial Statements Under Scrutiny

Following Carmelo Anthony’s conviction for the murder of Austin Metcalfe, the statements from his parents are attracting attention. Blaze TV’s Jason Whitlock has described their remarks as “delusional.”

In an interview with CBS News Texas, Anthony’s mother asserted, “My son is not a murderer. He never intended to hurt anyone. He was protecting himself. That’s what hurt so much.”

She mentioned that she pleaded with the jury to “have mercy” for her son, though she suspected they had already made their decision.

Anthony’s father echoed this sentiment, admitting, “We were delusional. We thought we were going to be hit hard.”

Moreover, they claimed that all testimonies were lies, with the mother stating, “All the witness statements were contradictory. Everyone.”

Whitlock, critiquing their narrative, stated, “Carmelo Anthony’s father said, ‘We were delusional.’ And I think what he should have said was, ‘We’re delusional.’”

He added, “I said I didn’t mean to be mean, but these guys are delusional. They live in a delusional space where their delusions are confirmed. … I just want you to see the shirt,” referring to the “#BelieveKarmelo” shirt worn by Anthony’s father during the interview.

Whitlock questioned the credibility of their claims, asking, “Why would we believe someone who didn’t say anything, who didn’t take the stand? What are we supposed to believe? Does Carmelo believe him? If he did, he would have taken the stand. That was their only chance. He took the stand and convinced the jury that it was self-defense.”

He noted that Anthony never shared his own story, which raises doubts.

While Anthony’s mother described the witnesses’ statements as inconsistent, Whitlock countered, emphasizing that they were in fact “very consistent.”

“I want you to explain to me what their motive is for lying. Why would they lie? What’s their motive? All the black witnesses, black kids, they all went to the stand and told a pretty consistent story within the group. What’s their motive?” he questioned.

Whitlock further remarked on the echo chambers created by social media, suggesting that “there’s a delusional echo chamber that a lot of black people live in,” which leads to these distorted perspectives.

Mimicking Anthony’s mother, he stated, “He didn’t want to kill Austin Metcalfe. Your son brought a knife to a high school track meet and told a kid in front of everyone, ‘If you touch me, you’ll know,’ or something like that.”

He concluded by reiterating the disconnect he perceives within their arguments.
