Jackson Dart’s Father Defends Him Amid Giants Fans Discontent
Jackson Dart’s father has had enough of the negative remarks directed at his son.
In a recent game, the New York Giants triumphed over the Las Vegas Raiders, winning 34-10. Dart had a remarkable performance, scoring twice, which helped snap their nine-game losing streak.
However, some fans of the Giants weren’t entirely pleased with this victory. It turns out, a loss would have locked them in for the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. While they still hold the No. 1 pick, there’s a bit of a catch—they need the Raiders to beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and they also suffered a loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18.
The Giants can’t draft lower than the second overall pick next April. Yet, some former players, like Danny Kanell, have doubts about whether Dart is the long-term solution for the franchise, despite showing promise during his rookie season.
Kanell, who played for the Giants in 1996, expressed his concerns candidly. He mentioned that when considering a first-round draft pick, you want a player who will be with the team for a decade or more. So far, he hasn’t seen Dart develop enough as a passer, although he recognizes the kid’s potential.
In response to Kanell’s comments, Dart’s father, Brandon, took to social media somewhat playfully, saying, “Eat some fat, brother!”
This season, Dart has played in 13 games for the Giants, starting 11 after a mid-season switch from Russell Wilson. Initially, he made headlines with a win against the Los Angeles Chargers but struggled shortly after, particularly in a rough outing against the New Orleans Saints.
Since those early games, it’s been a tough road for Dart and the team. They’ve lost several matches after leading and he missed a couple of games due to concussion protocols. There’s a lot of chatter about his tendency to absorb hits this season, which has raised eyebrows.
Clearly, Dart needs to keep progressing, especially with the organization considering a new head coach. The direction of the team could be quite different in the coming years, leaving Dart’s future somewhat uncertain.
Some fans speculate that the Giants might consider trading him to start fresh with a new quarterback, chosen by the incoming coach. Still, Dart’s played just 13 games, and his statistics tell a bit of a different story.
This season, Dart has amassed 22 total touchdowns, including nine rushing touchdowns after his recent performance in Las Vegas. He’s also recorded five interceptions and four fumbles.
These rushing touchdowns are notable; they put him second among all quarterbacks in the NFL, with only Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen having more touchdowns this season. Dart has also thrown for 2,042 yards, boasting a completion rate of 63.2%. His QBR of 58.1 ranks him 15th in the league, ahead of names like Caleb Williams and Jalen Hurts.
What the future holds for Jackson Dart remains to be seen. Despite the challenges, he has earned praise from teammates and coaches during his rookie year. Yet, as the NFL often shows, things can shift quickly in this business.
