Aaron Rodgers and Jay Glazer: Frayed Ties Uncovered
It seems that Aaron Rodgers and Jay Glazer haven’t had the best of relationships lately.
Glazer, known for his insider knowledge on NFL matters at Fox Sports, appeared on Yahoo Sports Daily this past Wednesday, tackling various topics, including Rodgers’ impending decisions regarding free agency.
He recalled that they were once friends and had even trained together in the offseason, referring to a boxing match he had mentioned last September.
But during his Wednesday appearance, Glazer didn’t hold back. He expressed some disappointment over the situation, claiming, “It’s awful because I thought we were really good friends and he only called me once this offseason.” It’s surprising to hear him say that, considering he seemed to think they had a stronger connection.
Interestingly, Glazer pointed out that Rodgers, who played for the Steelers last season, has had talks with new head coach Mike McCarthy, a familiar figure from their time at the Green Bay Packers.
Still, it’s a bit uncertain. Glazer added, “I don’t know, I don’t know what he’s going to do this coming Monday or Tuesday,” which just adds more speculation to the mix regarding Rodgers’ future.
Rodgers, now 42, is contemplating whether to hang up his jersey or ink a new contract. The Steelers are in the conversation largely due to his history with McCarthy.
For some context, Rodgers and McCarthy shared 13 seasons together in Green Bay from 2006 to 2018. They clinched Super Bowl XLV in 2010 and made nine playoff appearances together.
Since then, Rodgers’ career has seen him moving between the Jets and Steelers following a significant stint with the Packers—18 years that included ten Pro Bowls and four MVPs. After suffering an Achilles injury in his first game with the Jets in 2023, he returned with over 3,000 passing yards accumulated across two seasons.
The Steelers might find themselves needing his talents again in 2026, especially considering McCarthy has taken over from Mike Tomlin. Currently, the best quarterback options on Pittsburgh’s depth chart are Mason Rudolph and Will Howard.
A reunion between Rodgers and McCarthy could serve as a potential turning point for the Steelers, aiming to end their ten-year playoff drought.
Owner Art Rooney II mentioned that he hopes to reach a decision about Rodgers’ future “within the next month or so.” Meanwhile, Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly suggested last week that Rodgers is likely to return unless he feels completely finished with football.
“What I’ve heard a lot is they’re expecting him back,” Kaboly remarked. “They have the impression that he still wants to play.”
However, Glazer’s recent comments have certainly complicated any predictions about Rodgers’ next steps.
