It must seem surreal, really.
Just weeks before South Africa made their return to the World Cup for the first time in 16 years, Jaden Adams’ partner, Aquila Adendorff, was expressing her excitement publicly. Tragically, that joy shifted drastically with the unexpected death of the 25-year-old midfielder.
The couple had a 5-year-old daughter together.
In an Instagram post, Adendorff shared, “Seeing you accomplish so much filled my heart with pride. Through the hard work, sacrifices, the early mornings, disappointing moments, and times when no one was watching, you persevered. You stayed disciplined and trusted God throughout.”
She continued with, “You’re representing your country now, and I don’t think you realize what an inspiration you are. You truly deserve this because I know how hard you’ve worked. No matter how far your journey takes you, I will always be your biggest supporter and safest haven.”
She also wrote, “My love, this is just the beginning for you. May God guide your steps and open even greater doors ahead. Keep shining and believing; we are so proud of you.”
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” — Proverbs 16:3.
During the World Cup, Adams played in three matches, making history as South Africa advanced to the knockout stages for the first time. However, this was a bittersweet time for him, as he also grieved the loss of his grandmother, who passed away the day before a match against the Czech Republic, where he started.
