JB Pritzker Attributes Charlie Kirk’s Assassination to Trump’s Rhetoric

Illinois Governor Condemns Trump’s Rhetoric After Shooting of Activist

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker criticized former President Donald Trump and the events of January 6, suggesting that Trump’s words contribute to a culture of political violence. This comes in the wake of the tragic death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Kirk, just 31 years old, was reportedly the target of a shooter located roughly 200 yards away during his speech. In expressing his condolences to Kirk’s family, Pritzker took a moment to address the broader implications of the incident. “My sympathy goes out to Charlie Kirk’s family,” he stated. “It appears he was clearly targeted, but I can’t say whether this was political violence or not; it seems authorities might have someone in custody.”

Pritzker explicitly linked Trump’s rhetoric to escalating violence, stating, “We’ve seen far too many shootings and political violence across our country, and it must come to an end. Some individuals seem intent on blocking any progress towards that.” He reflected on the political climate, mentioning, “The president’s rhetoric often seems to fuel this unrest. After what happened on January 6, it’s concerning what kind of message this sends.”

According to university officials, Kirk was engaging with students when the attack occurred. Video footage later showed security personnel attending to the scene after the shooting. Meanwhile, Trump acknowledged Kirk’s passing, labeling him a “true warrior” and a patriot in a statement.
