Vice President Vance Criticizes Media Coverage of Minneapolis Shooting

On Thursday, Vice President J.D. Vance sharply criticized CNN and other corporate media for failing to provide important context regarding the recent fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. He described the omission of details as an “utter disgrace” and expressed that those suggesting she was innocent should feel “ashamed.”

The incident occurred during a confrontation with law enforcement in Minneapolis. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), an officer shot Good from inside a vehicle. This event has heightened tensions in Congress, where lawmakers are divided over immigration policies under the Trump administration and the enforcement activities by ICE.

The tragedy has polarized opinions across the nation. Many on the left have criticized ICE, whereas Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reported that Good had been “stalking and disrupting” officers throughout the day. Vance, along with Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt, condemned the way the media has portrayed the situation during a White House briefing.

Vance remarked, “You just read the headlines on CNN about what happened in Minneapolis… ‘Outrage over ICE agents killing an American citizen in Minneapolis.'” He continued, “Well, that’s one way of looking at it. Many in corporate media have labeled this an ‘attack’ over the last 24 hours. I emphasize ‘attack’ because this was an assault on federal law enforcement and, ultimately, an attack on public order.”

Expressing his disgust over the media coverage, Vance stated, “The way this case has been covered is absolutely disgraceful and puts our law enforcement officers at risk.” He pointed out that six months prior, the same ICE officer involved in the shooting had sustained serious injuries when he was dragged by a vehicle, receiving multiple stitches in his leg. “Do you think he might be sensitive about someone trying to hit him with a car?” he asked.

Vance further argued that the media missed critical details regarding the confrontation and the actions of Good, suggesting they were part of a left-leaning movement aimed at obstructing law enforcement efforts. “If reporters want to tell the truth, they should acknowledge that radical groups are exploiting situations to hinder the enforcement of immigration laws enacted by a president elected by the people,” he said.

He also alleged that several media representatives were “lying about this attack.” Vance emphasized the need for more accurate reporting and accountability from the press. He concluded that Good’s intent was not innocent, stating, “She was trying to hit this man with her car. He shot back in self-defense after being seriously injured before. Anyone who claims law enforcement shot at an innocent woman should be truly ashamed.”

Despite the backlash, CNN defended its coverage. A spokesperson stated to FOX News Digital, “What we stand for is an accurate story.”
