US Vice President JD Vance met with Pope Francis briefly on Easter Sunday to recover from pneumonia.
Vance’s car entered the Vatican City through the Sidegate and parked near the hotel residence in Francis while Easter Mass was celebrated at St. Peter’s Square.
Having cut his workload significantly to recover, Francis delegated the Mass celebration to another cardinal.
The Vatican said they met for a few minutes at Domus Santa Malta to exchange Easter greetings.
Vance and the Pope have been keenly intertwined with the Trump administration’s plan to expel immigrants and immigrants on a large scale.
Francis made the care of immigrants a hallmark of his pope.
Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, met with the Vatican Secretary of State and Foreign Minister on Saturday.
