JD Vance to Start Holiday at British Government Residence

The UK government is set to welcome US Vice President JD Vance this weekend at his historic residence as he kicks off his summer break in the British Isles.

Vice President J.D. Vance, along with his wife Usha and their three children, will start their vacation in the UK this weekend. While most of their trip is planned around privately rented accommodations in the trendy Cotswolds region, the vacation begins with a gathering hosted by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

Interestingly, Lammy, who previously made strong comments about former President Donald Trump—referring to him as a “sociopath who hates women and sympathizes with neo-Nazis”—has shifted his tone and seems to be aligning more with Trump lately, reflecting some complexities in political relations.

As Foreign Secretary, Lammy oversees Chevening House, a significant 17th-century estate located in Kent. This residence, originally gifted to the nation by a childless count, is a place designated for government ministers, typically used by the Foreign Secretary, although the Prime Minister has his own official country estate, Chequers.

If deemed unnecessary, the property can also be allocated to members of the royal family or diplomats, including the Canadian High Commissioner and the US Ambassador, and even to the National Trust, which manages access to historic sites.

JD Vance, like Trump, has notable connections to Britain. He has described his roots as “Irish hillbillies in Scotland.” It’s noteworthy that his family has rented substantial property in the Cotswolds for their August getaway, which, according to reports, has become an increasingly favored destination for affluent travelers.

The Cotswolds garnered media attention last year when celebrity Ellen DeGeneres chose the area for her own retreat from the United States.
