Wynton Hall Discusses J.D. Vance’s Approach to AI and Innovation

Wynton Hall, the social media director at Breitbart News and the author of Code Red: Left, Right, China, and the Race to Control AI, shared insights on how Vice President J.D. Vance’s “techno-populist” approach can balance innovation with the needs of working-class Americans. This conversation took place during Breitbart News Saturday with host Matthew Boyle.

When asked about Vance’s framework for the national AI discussion, Hall argued that it will significantly impact the future of global politics. He noted, “J.D. Vance has a unique ability to bridge the gap for the conservative populist movement for two main reasons. First, he wrote Hillbilly Elegy and comes from a working-class background, which gives him insight into the struggles faced by working-class Americans, particularly amid globalism.”

Hall added that many might not realize Vance’s roots in Silicon Valley and venture capital. “He knows the language and the motives of the tech elite. His ‘technopopulist’ framing is already apparent,” he pointed out.

He elaborated, noting that Vance advocates for leading innovation as a means to generate economic growth and wealth for the nation. However, there’s also an emphasis on ensuring that working-class communities won’t be burdened with high electricity costs due to AI data centers.

In his book, Hall argues that the collaboration between President Donald Trump and Vance on initiatives like the Ratepayer Protection Plan—which mandates that tech companies cover electricity costs for their data centers—is a smart move to protect working-class Americans.

Moreover, Hall believes that this initiative could encourage tech companies to help modernize the power grid, resulting in reduced costs for everyone. He emphasized Vance’s unique position as perhaps the only Republican in national office who can communicate effectively with Silicon Valley’s elite, while staying true to conservative populist values.
