Jean-Pierre on Trump’s White House building: ‘Corruption at its heart’

Jean-Pierre on Trump's White House construction: 'Corruption at its core'

Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre criticized the Trump administration’s new ballroom construction project, which is being backed by private donations, during a segment on ABC.

She expressed concern, saying, “So the people’s home is basically being sold to the highest bidder, and at the core of that is corruption.”

Jean-Pierre further remarked, “There’s nothing more metaphorical for what’s going on in this country right now than watching Donald Trump take the wrecking ball to the White House.”

This ambitious $250 million project is actively seeking private investors, promising them “recognition related to the White House Ballroom.”

Several tech giants, including Google, Amazon, and Meta, are being invited to participate in the initial fundraising efforts. Additionally, Trump has committed to investing his own funds into the project.

During a speech to Republican senators, Trump remarked, “We’re spending our money. You’re probably hearing some beautiful construction sounds in the background, and that’s music to my ears. When I hear that, it reminds me of money. In this case, it’s because I’m paying the money that it reminds me of the lack of money.”

Demolition began on part of the east wing earlier this week. Despite a previous claim from White House press secretary Caroline Levitt that “nothing will be demolished,” the project is now underway.

The White House dismissed criticism of the demolition as a “manufactured outrage.”

Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized the initiative, calling it “destroying” the House of the People.

Jean-Pierre, who recently announced his intention to become an independent ahead of his book release, faced backlash from Democrats. They criticized leaders for not holding Trump accountable for his far-reaching reforms. His book, titled “Independent,” was also launched on Tuesday.

Jean-Pierre urged viewers, saying, “The powers that be in Washington, D.C., are not standing up. They are acting as if they are powerless. That’s part of the book ‘Independence.’ No, you all have power. You all have power. Do something with it.”
