Billionaire Jeff Bezos asked social media to play the next James Bond as Amazon MGM took over the franchise.
Amazon has creatively controlled the James Bond franchise this week after signing a deal with Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson. Around NBC News:
James Bond films have been produced for a long time by Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. Wilson and Broccoli will provide creative control to MGM Studios, which Amazon acquired in 2021 for $8.45 billion.
Amazon acquired the bond franchise distribution rights after the acquisition of MGM, but it was not creative control.
As part of the agreement, Amazon's MGM studios Wilson and Broccoli have formed a new joint venture to house intellectual property rights on the bonds, and will remain co-owners of the franchise.
In a statement, Amazon's Prime Video and MGM Studios' Mike Hopkins will call the James Bond franchise a “critical legacy” and will be led by a new generation.

“We are honored to continue this precious legacy and look forward to escorting us the next stage of legendary 007 for viewers around the world,” he added.
