Jeff Daniels’ Take on Kamala Harris and the Republican Party
Actor Jeff Daniels has drawn a comparison between Vice President Kamala Harris and historical figures in the political landscape during a discussion about the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
In a recent interview with Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC, he expressed his unwavering support for Harris, reflecting on her capabilities. “I still think about Kamala and how I think she was a good choice,” he remarked on the podcast, The Best People. “She did what Lincoln did, so I don’t care what anyone says,” he emphasized.
He also added that Liz Cheney would have made a strong Secretary of State. Wallace further connected Harris to Lincoln, to which Daniels concurred.
“A rival team. That’s what Lincoln did—he surrounded himself with those who opposed him. It’s about finding people who can act, not just those who say, ‘Yes, more tariffs, sir,’” he noted.
Turning his focus to the state of the Republican Party, Daniels critiqued the changes he perceives under Donald Trump’s tenure. “It’s like King George’s insanity—the degradation of the Republican Party,” he said. Though he acknowledged, “I’m just an actor. What do I know?” he described a shift he noticed decades ago when Mitch McConnell began transforming the courts. For Daniels, it signals a new America focused on diversity and treating everyone with equality and dignity, much like the teachings of Jesus.
He lamented the decline of civility in America, particularly during Trump’s presidency. “We lost our decency. We lost our courtesy. We respected the rule of law, and now we’ve normalized verbal abuse and bullying,” he added, reflecting a deep concern for the nation’s political discourse.
