CNN Correspondent Weighs in on Declassified Clinton Allegations

During a segment on CNN News Central, Chief National Affairs correspondent Jeff Zelenny expressed his reservations about covering recently declassified details indicating that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is allegedly taking “heavy tranquilizers” on a daily basis.

This revelation was made public at a White House press conference. The information originated from a committee email thought to be acquired by Russian sources. Zelenny noted that the former Clinton campaign representative had not yet responded to inquiries from CNN regarding these allegations, which he seemed to dismiss.

Zelenny remarked, “These are quite distant allegations. The intelligence community in Russia suggested that Hillary Clinton was involved with tranquilizers at that time, but this was never verified. I think this is really minimal information that we should be discussing.”

He also mentioned, “It’s not just a matter of years or facts; it’s also about the credibility of the source. But this is what the current White House seems keen to focus on, and honestly, I’m not sure we should give it much attention.”

The newly released information appears to contradict previous narratives about Russia wanting to undermine then-candidate Donald Trump. Reports indicated that Russian officials had information that could weaken Clinton’s position, despite the mainstream view that Putin preferred Trump’s victory.

A report highlighted that the conclusion drawn by U.S. intelligence—that Putin preferred Trump—did not meet the analytical standards as outlined in the Intelligence Community Directive. Trustworthy Intelligence questioned the basis of the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) that concluded Russia conspired to damage Clinton’s campaign chances.

The assessment from the CIA and FBI had confidently asserted that Russia aimed to support Trump’s candidacy. Former CIA director John Brennan shared that there were several unpublished intelligence reports released post-election, but some contained questionable information and unclear origins.

He noted that only vague, unverified snippets from one of these reports were used to suggest Russia’s alleged aspiration to assist Trump.
