Jeffrey Toobin warns Fani Willis’ case against Trump is ‘going nowhere’

Former CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin returned to the network on Friday, claiming that the lawsuit against Donald Trump in Georgia is “going nowhere” and calling it “a very good day for Donald Trump.” ” he said.

Mr. Toobin, a former federal prosecutor, and former District Attorney Gwen Keyes of DeKalb County, Georgia, joined CNN’s Ellie Honig and Anderson Cooper on Friday to discuss the election interference case against Mr. Trump in Georgia.

“Today was a very good day for Donald Trump,” Toobin said during a media appearance. “This incident is hopeless.”

“What happens, which is highly unlikely, is that somehow the trial gets pushed back to August or the fall? Just think about it. There was another extortion case in Georgia where jury selection was held instead of a trial. “It took a year to select the jury. This case will never end. It’s a trial before the election,” he continued. “This whole thing is embarrassing. Fani Willis persisted, but this case is not going to go away anytime soon.”

Judge Rules: Fani Willis must recuse herself from Trump case or fire Special Counsel Nathan Wade

Gwen Keyes, former district attorney for DeKalb County, Georgia, said she respectfully disagrees with Toobin.

“I think there’s enough evidence to move forward. Especially the timing of this case, we’ve had one extortion case that took a long time to go to a jury, and I think this is unusual.” I’ve been a state prosecutor for years. I’ve never seen a jury take longer than 10 or 12 months. And in the last RICO case I know of, Prosecutor Willis took 12 months. “She was tried with another defendant, and she was able to get a conviction.” “The jury will be out in about four weeks, so I think this is a precedent that we should consider,” Keyes said. he said.

A Georgia judge ruled Friday that Willis must either recuse himself from the case against Trump or fire special counsel Nathan Wade. Willis was accused of having an inappropriate romantic relationship and tried to cover it up with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor in charge of the case.

Mr. Wade resigned immediately after the verdict.

Key witness in Fani Willis case says she may have lied in text about friend’s affair

Cooper asked Honig if the ruling would harm her case.

“Of course,” he said. “She survived. I don’t think she won, but she survived, and that’s the most important practical end result. She’s still on the case. But Fani Willis’ Her credibility is in tatters in a way I’ve never seen before.” She has now been reprimanded twice by two separate judges, and her language has never been seen in this opinion. You probably won’t. ”

“So the judge said there were seven or eight attacks on her credibility based on the record. He said there was a reasonable question as to whether the prosecutor gave false testimony. So , which means the judge is saying there’s a real possibility that the district attorney was involved in a “witness who took the stand and perjured himself,” Honig said.

Toobin again weighed in on the trail’s status, quipping that it’s “long overdue” for it to happen under President Malia Obama.
