Jelly Rolls admits he was ‘court ordered’ to attend his first AA meeting at 14

Jelly Roll admitted that he was still a teenager when he was “court-ordered” to attend his first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

The 39-year-old singer said this while discussing his experiences with AA and Narcotics Anonymous on Friday's episode of SiriusXM's “The Highway.” I don't fully remember the first time we actually met, because I was about 14 years old and got a court order.

“I don't remember as much as I should,” Jerry (real name Jason Bradley Deford) added.

“But I remember clearly the first time I found solace in that room, or the first time I was introduced to the concept of this room, and how much I took from it. .”

He continued, “I have never been more inspired than when I left an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting or a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.”

“If you've never had a drink in your life, I think everyone should experience it at least once,” the “Somebody Save Me” singer continued.

“I still think there's something to it. I mean, good ones are like good theater. They make you listen, they make you learn, they make you laugh, and they make you cry.”

Jelly Roll's experience in AA and NA was the inspiration for his song “I Am Not Healthy,” he told host Ania Hammer.

The artist, who has opened up about his sobriety journey in the past, previously admitted in May that he used marijuana to wean himself off harder drugs.

“I think a world without weed, a world where Jelly Roll takes codeine and takes Xanax and snorts cocaine again, but in a world with weed, I'm fine,” he told Taste of Country.

“I always get in trouble for this, but my stance on marijuana remains the same. I believe it helped me in many ways with my anxiety,” he added. Ta.
