Controversial Comments on ICE Shooting in Minneapolis
In a recent episode of her podcast “IHIP News,” left-wing host Jennifer Welch criticized the shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minnesota. She accused mainstream media of presenting a narrative that supports former President Donald Trump’s administration.
During a Sunday segment on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” anchor Kristen Welker questioned Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis about whether he maintains some responsibility as a local leader to ease tensions amidst escalating anti-ICE protests. Welch commented that Welker’s line of questioning illustrated a concerning “false equivalency” in media coverage, especially highlighting the shooting and labeling Welker’s approach as “disgusting.”
“The way she phrased her question, ‘Are you responsible?’ was quite pointed,” Welch remarked. “She pressured him to reduce the tension, reflecting the propaganda of this regime. Fascism cannot take root unless the press colludes. This false equivalency is a significant part of the issue we’ve reached today. This situation didn’t arise from nowhere. It’s been building over time.”
Welker’s question followed the mayor’s earlier statement urging ICE to “get out of Minneapolis.” Welch attempted to draw a parallel to historical events in Nazi Germany, describing a hypothetical scenario with a Berlin mayor realizing the implications of the Gestapo’s actions.
“Imagine the mayor of Berlin during the rise of the Gestapo, seeing the oppressive signs. If he had realized what was happening, perhaps he would have said, ‘Get out of Berlin.’ That understanding of dehumanization and depravity is crucial,” she explained.
She further asserted, “So, Trump’s oppressive regime and his enforcers murdered an innocent woman coldly, turning away from her. It’s disgraceful for NBC News to normalize such violent questions and to suggest the mayor should worry about public perceptions, when meanwhile, people are dying. This is a serious issue.”
In response, Frey acknowledged his duty to “lower the temperature” but ridiculed those who were upset by his strong language against ICE. He stated, “I may have dropped an F-bomb, but they killed someone. The real incitement here is the act of killing, not my words.”
While Democrats have labeled the shooting as murder, the Trump administration has characterized it as self-defense. The incident occurred during an ICE operation in Minneapolis, where 37-year-old Renee Good reportedly accelerated her vehicle while agents surrounded it.
