Jihadists Kill One Hundred Christians in the Congo, Including Massacre at Funeral

A watchdog group that monitors anti-Christian persecution reported on Thursday that over 100 Christians were murdered by jihadists this week in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The tragedy unfolded when Christians were attending a funeral in the village of Nutoyo, only to be ambushed by a group of Islamic extremists on Monday night. While some attackers were armed with firearms, others resorted to using machetes, leading to a gruesome scene.

In addition to the massacre, the attackers managed to lure around 100 villagers and set 16 buildings ablaze.

Abbe Parc Nzaramingi, the parish priest, described the horrific aftermath: “What I saw is horrifying. Bodies were strewn everywhere—on mattresses in the living rooms, in hallways, and even outside. It’s devastating to see that almost everyone who was mourning has been killed.”

The violence escalated further on Tuesday when looters struck again in Potodu, a community primarily made up of Christian farmers who were vulnerable as many lived in tents while working their fields.

According to Open Door, the death toll had already surpassed 30 since the second attack, and many fatalities remained unrecorded, pushing the two-day total over 100.

“It’s a night of sadness and devastation for Christians,” Pastor Parc mentioned somberly.

“We really hope for divine intervention, as we’re exhausted from the constant killings in Beni’s territory,” he added, pointing out that Beni is an area filled with villages.

Pastor Arili, who leads a nearby church and has taken in some of the refugees from Nutoyo, voiced his concerns. “This ongoing genocide is eroding our faith. It feels like a continuation of last month’s atrocities. We need help, Lord,” he prayed.

He urged others to unite in prayer against this menace, reminding that divine assistance is crucial in these trying times.

An unverified report noted a disturbing video circulating that depicts the devastation’s aftermath, with numerous bodies, including children and women, lying outside. The recording captures the anguished cries of surviving family members. Some victims were allegedly found with their hands bound, highlighting the brutality of these events.

These attacks have been linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group with ties to ISIS, which asserts itself as the Islamic State’s Central African affiliate. The ADF has a troubling history of violence against Christians in the region.

The UN Security Council has condemned the ADF for gross violations of international law, such as recruiting child soldiers and employing sexual violence as a tactic.

An anonymous source connected with Open Door disclosed to Fox News that at least ten documented attacks against Congolese Christians occurred just last month, although she speculated there were many more that went unreported, adding that multiple villages are often under siege at the same time.

“People are weary; they want to know when this nightmare will end. It feels like someone is murdered every day,” she lamented. “There are children left orphaned, with one or both parents gone. It’s sheer pain and suffering.”
