First lady Jill Biden returned to Europe on Friday from France for a day in Delaware to support the trial of her son-in-law Hunter Biden, before heading to the US for an official presidential visit with the French president, all paid for by U.S. taxpayers.
The 73-year-old accompanied President Biden to Normandy this week to mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings on Thursday, before returning to the US for Hunter’s gun trial.
The first lady returned to France on Saturday for a state visit with President Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.
On Friday, Biden and Macron met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris.

The first lady has attended court every day this week except Thursday.
In a 2022 interview, the first lady referred to herself as Hunter’s “mom” when talking about the investigation.

“I mean, I have to support him and love him and I’m constantly talking to him and texting him, ‘How are you?’ Because it’s hard,” she told The New York Times.
The modified Boeing 747 used as the iconic Air Force One costs about $200,000 per hour to fly, while Air Force Two, often used by the First Lady, can cost tens of thousands of dollars per hour.

Prosecutors ended the trial Friday with charges that Hunter Biden lied when he declared he was not a drug user on a federal gun purchase form in October 2018. When the trial resumes on Monday, the defense is likely to call at least one more witness before making closing arguments.

The president is not expected to attend his son’s trial.
