Kathy Griffin’s Social Media Trolling
Comedian Kathy Griffin recently revealed that a provocative social media post suggesting she was dating a 22-year-old woman was actually just a prank. She took to Instagram on Thursday, sharing a picture of a young man, whose identity she kept secret, and captioned it, “He’s 22 years old. Good luck, internet.”
As one might expect, her post generated thousands of comments across platforms. The following day, Griffin clarified that she was indeed not in a relationship with the young man, describing the post as a “social media experiment.”
“No, I’m not dating this 22-year-old,” she explained in a follow-up post. “He assisted me with security during my trip to New York. But the reactions were fascinating,” she continued, noting that while many of her followers were supportive, others offered what she described as “slutty misogyny,” criticizing her for considering dating someone younger.
Griffin pointed out the double standards in society by referencing numerous age-gap relationships where older men are involved with younger women—relationships that often escape severe criticism. She mentioned prominent couples like Luke Wilson and his 24-year-old girlfriend, along with Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
“Older men have been dating younger women forever,” she remarked. “Relax… I’m just going to have a little harmless fun with you all on my IG posts.”
This isn’t the first time Griffin has shared details about a younger man in her life. Earlier this year, she had posted about another boyfriend, significantly older than the recent 22-year-old. In 2025, she reflected on a past relationship with a 23-year-old, admitting she “accidentally fell in love” with him. However, she felt he lacked the life experience she desired in a partner.
She recalled, “When he told me he didn’t want kids and that we could be together forever, I knew he was too young. And I said, ‘You don’t know that. You’re 23. You have no idea.'” This sentiment ultimately led her to end the relationship.
Griffin had previously married marketing executive Randy Bick, who is 18 years her junior, but filed for divorce almost four years later. Besides her romantic escapades, Griffin is also known for her vocal opposition to former President Donald Trump, even expressing in videos her disdain for him.
