‘Friday Follies’: What happened to Little Italy on Mamdani’s map?

In a recent segment, Laura Ingraham and Raymond Arroyo discussed various topics, starting with Kathy Griffin’s romantic life and her polarizing funeral performance in Amsterdam. They also took aim at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s behavior in public. Ingraham expressed her concerns about New York City officials not recognizing Italian Americans after Little Italy was removed from maps, pointing to underlying issues of discrimination.

Actor Robert Davi criticized Mayor Zoran Mamdani after it was noticed that the city’s immigrant enclave map didn’t include Little Italy, a significant area for immigrants. This map, which came back into the spotlight recently, highlights 30 immigrant communities across New York City but ignores prominent Jewish and Irish neighborhoods as well.

Due to pushback from Italian American organizations, the city has stated it will revise the map to include Little Italy.

Davi didn’t hold back in a video posted on social media, labeling Mamdani as a “bastard” for not giving proper respect to Little Italy. He urged Italian and Irish Americans to display their displeasure when they encounter the mayor. “If I came across you, I’d spit on you,” he declared, adding, “You need to show respect for the city and the people who built it.”

At 75, Davi spoke passionately about his heritage, mentioning that his grandparents were from Sicily and Naples and instilled values of hard work and community. “This is America. God bless America,” he added.

Continuing his critique, Davi described Mamdani as a “leftist Marxist communist,” suggesting he should leave the U.S. entirely. “Go back to where you were born, Mamdani. You don’t belong in America,” he stated emphatically.

Mamdani, who emigrated from Uganda at the age of seven, has addressed the map issue, mentioning it was originally created in 2023 by the previous administration. “This map isn’t a complete representation of the more than 200 ethnic communities in our city,” he said, assuring that changes, including the return of Little Italy, are in the works.

The mayor’s office had previously referred inquiries to Mamdani’s comments during a recent press conference, emphasizing a commitment to make the map more inclusive.

Interestingly, according to the Library of Congress, over 4 million Italians immigrated to the U.S. between the 1880s and 1924, with a significant number—around one-third—settling in New York City.
