Jill Biden Responds to Critics of Her Memoir
Former First Lady Jill Biden has addressed concerns from some Democrats who believe her memoir unnecessarily revisits the controversies surrounding the upcoming 2024 election.
Biden made these remarks during an event in New York City on Wednesday aimed at promoting her book, “View from the East Wing.” She specifically responded to former White House press secretary Andrew Bates, who questioned why such a sensitive topic needed to be publicly discussed again, according to reports.
“I want to say to Andrew: Call him, tell him to his face, buddy,” Biden said, maintaining that her memoir only dedicates “one chapter on politics.”
She then elaborated on the broader context of the 2024 election, mentioning everything from her husband Joe Biden’s debate performance to her own views on his decision to seek re-election.
Biden suggested she could have offered insights about her husband’s condition had she attended his debate preparations but indicated she was busy campaigning at the time. “I was out on the campaign trail,” she reflected, adding, “I never wanted to see that moment again in my life, but I had been working with the press for two days…”
She openly acknowledged the visible aging of her husband, stating, “I watched Joe grow old. Oh my god, we all watched him grow old.”
Her statements come shortly after she stirred attention on “The View” by expressing doubts about her husband serving another four years, particularly after he received a cancer diagnosis. “Oh my god. When I got the cancer diagnosis, it was such a shock,” she explained, noting the jarring shift in their lives from planning travel to confronting such serious news. “What am I doing? It’s like my whole life has changed. It was a real shock.”
