Congressman Jim Banks (R-Ind.) called on President Joe Biden to remain silent about the murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley, who was allegedly killed by an illegal alien released into the United States during his presidential address. I’m asking you to break it. Union (SOTU) address.
On February 22, Laken Riley went for a morning jog around the University of Georgia (UGA) campus in Athens, Georgia. Riley was a nursing student at nearby Augusta University.
Riley didn’t return for several hours, so her roommate called the police. Her body was eventually found mangled near Herrick Lake on the UGA campus. The next day, Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was arrested and charged with murder.

After crossing the southern border, Ybarra was released into the interior of the United States through Biden’s parole pipeline in September 2022. He was arrested in the sanctuary cities of New York City and Athens in 2023 before Riley’s murder, but was never turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
In a letter to Biden on Monday, Banks said: Said The President should recognize Mr. Riley in his SOTU speech.
As president, you have executive powers to reinstate successful Trump-era immigration policies that you overturned, including Remain in Mexico, Title 42, and building a border wall.. These Trump policies are effective and will go a long way toward securing our borders and protecting innocent American lives. [Emphasis added]

Banks said in a statement that Riley was “living a dream until it was shattered by Joe Biden’s vast borders” and called her killing “an entirely avoidable tragedy.”
“Mr. Biden owes it to his family and the American people to call him by name,” Banks said.
Angel mom Alison Phillips said her daughter’s murder was a “senseless and avoidable tragedy” and posted an image of Riley in the shape of a heart with the words “Laken Riley: Say Her Name” written on it. Posted.
During a visit to the southern border on Thursday, a reporter asked Biden about Riley’s killing, but Biden ignored the question.

“Mr. President, are you responsible for the death of Laken Riley?” A reporter did not ask Mr. Biden for a response. By contrast, former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said he called Riley’s parents “incredible people.”
