Jimmy Carter ‘enjoying peanut butter ice cream’ in hospice care, ally says

Former President Jimmy Carter has faced “significant changes” in his grandson’s health despite warning again this week that his 99-year-old life is “nearing the end,” according to the former head of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief. The 39th president’s family and the Carter Center announced last February that Jimmy Carter would receive end-of-life care at his home in Plains, Georgia, rather than receive “additional medical interventions.”

Carter’s late wife, Rosalyn, was revealed to be receiving hospice care in November and died at the age of 96, two days after her condition was made public.

Jimmy Carter has not been seen in public since attending the memorial service and funeral for his wife of 77 years.

“He’s still a great guy,” Alexander added Wednesday. “He has always surprised us all with his longevity.”

Alexander’s upbeat update came a day after a more somber assessment from the president’s grandson, Jason.

“My grandfather is doing well. As you know, he has been in hospice for almost a year and a half now,” Jason Carter said at the 28th Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum.

“And I think he’s really coming to the end. Like I said before, there’s a part of this faith journey that’s very important to him. And that faith. There’s a part of his journey that you can only live at the very end, and I think he was in that space.”

Mr. Carter is the oldest living former U.S. president and the longest-serving chief executive officer in U.S. history.

The Georgia native will celebrate his 100th birthday on October 1st.
