Jimmy Kimmel Critiques Violence Amid LA Protests
During a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, host Jimmy Kimmel expressed his frustration over the actions of immigration officials amidst the unrest following the LA riots. He voiced anger about authorities arresting individuals he described as serious offenders, such as murderers and drug dealers.
Kimmel’s monologue criticized the current administration, suggesting that the National Guard should intervene to dismantle what he termed “peaceful demonstrations” in Los Angeles. “I’m very angry, I really am. I thought I understood the situation, but it seems much worse than I imagined,” he shared. He noted that many long-term residents of the city are unjustly affected by these actions, although he did not mention that many of those detained had existing deportation orders or prior criminal convictions.
He contended that the federal government’s approach seemed indiscriminate, contradicting claims that they were only targeting immigrants. Kimmel argued that he and others on the left aim to defend these individuals.
He maintained that despite the three days of upheaval, the rioters and looters were still described as peaceful. “Protesting is not only our right but our responsibility as Americans,” Kimmel stated, expressing his view that Angelenos united to voice their dissent against what he called “nasty abuse,” with minimal exceptions. He added, “When our teams win championships, what we see is more of a celebration, not a riot.”
Kimmel also took a jab at Governor Gavin Newsom, implying that Democratic leadership was contributing to chaos while critiquing Trump for calling for National Guard assistance.
