Jimmy Kimmel Supports Minneapolis Mayor After Shooting Incident
On a recent episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” host Jimmy Kimmel expressed his support for Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who reacted strongly following the shooting of a woman during an ICE operation. The incident led to a passionate response from the mayor, who used explicit language to call for ICE’s removal from the city.
Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman, was shot during an ICE operation in south Minneapolis. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the fatal shooting was in self-defense, claiming Good attempted to use her vehicle against officers during an attempted arrest.
Frey, shortly after the incident, proclaimed that he had ordered ICE to exit the city, dismissing the DHS’s self-defense narrative as “garbage.” Kimmel showcased Frey’s fiery speech, which received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Kimmel, while presenting a shirt with a message reflecting the mayor’s sentiment, echoed Frey’s directive: “Tell ICE, get them out of Minneapolis. Get them out of all these cities.”
During the show, Kimmel criticized ICE’s operational methods, questioning how such actions could be justified under the guise of protection. He also took aim at President Trump’s commentary on the incident, reflecting on the president’s lack of empathy. Kimmel read Trump’s statement, which accused Good of deliberately injuring an officer, suggesting it was an act of aggression.
In a moment of personal reflection, Kimmel recounted his own reaction to the shooting, noting that it looked more like a tragic response from Good as she was frightened and trying to escape rather than a deliberate attack.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem later characterized Good’s actions as “domestic terrorism,” framing the narrative around the incident very differently from Kimmel and Frey.
