Residents of Los Angeles and a popular boutique are weighing in on allegations that Carly Kimmel, sister-in-law to late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, complained about cookies associated with Spencer Pratt being sold at a longstanding grocery store in Brentwood.
Carly Kimmel, who is married to Jimmy’s brother Jonathan, was accused in a viral social media post of voicing discontent about “Vote Plat” cookies from Vicente Foods, a family-owned grocery that has served the community since 1948. Jonathan Kimmel has reportedly been involved with Jimmy’s show for a number of years.
The claims gained traction after Kitson, a well-known fashion and lifestyle boutique in Los Angeles frequented by celebrities like Paris Hilton and Angelina Jolie, stated that a “reliable source” affirmed that Carly was the source of the complaint.
Kitson also shared a photo of the cookies alongside Carly Kimmel’s Instagram, remarking, “Looks like attacks on small businesses run in the family.” They added, “It’s important to remember that similar cases regarding bakeries and free speech have ended in victories for the bakers in the Supreme Court. Check out Carly’s Instagram and express your thoughts.”
Vicente Foods describes itself as specializing in “the finest meats, freshest produce, and fair prices.”
Social media users responded to the allegations, with some finding humor in the situation—one person remarked, “Imagine a crash over a cookie,” while another questioned, “What’s going on with the Kimmel family?”
Many rallied in support of the grocery store. “I urge everyone to buy something from the bakery to help support this small business,” one user encouraged. Another mentioned, “Vicente Foods has been my go-to for 40 years. I even had those amazing cookies when they were released a few weeks ago.”
Spencer Pratt also chimed in, sharing a user’s comment that said, “@spencerpratt I picked up 12 cookies. My wife calls them ‘curly cookies.’ If the Kimmel family is attempting to block these sales, that means Kimmel is winning.”
The allegations regarding Carly surfaced after Breitbart News reported on April 28 that Jimmy Kimmel reiterated a controversial joke about First Lady Melania Trump, referring to her as resembling a “pregnant widow.” The monologue was broadcast shortly before an incident involving an attempted assassination of President Trump occurred.
Kimmel described facing a “Twitter storm” but had not received significant backlash until Melania Trump called for his removal, labeling his remarks as “corrosive” and “hateful.” Donald Trump himself urged Disney and ABC to terminate Kimmel’s contract, calling the situation “insane.”
On May 4, Breitbart reported that Kimmel had joked about Rudy Giuliani just days before his hospitalization, saying Giuliani was rising from his “grave.” Kimmel featured a video of Giuliani criticizing him during the segment.
