Jimmy Rollins Celebrates Hole-in-One at American Century Championship
Former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop and World Series champion, Jimmy Rollins, had a moment to celebrate during the American Century Championship Celebrity Golf Tournament held on Saturday.
While on the par 3 twelfth hole at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Club in Nevada, Rollins took his shot from the tee. To his delight, the ball landed on the green and rolled right into the cup. This marked the third consecutive year that a hole-in-one has been achieved at the American Century Championships.
He was awarded a MasterCraft X24 boat for his accomplishment. “It was the third hole, so I just started the back nine,” he shared, “and I got my first hole-in-one and won the boat. American Century Championship, oh, this is beautiful.”
Interestingly, this was Rollins’ first-ever hole-in-one. But, despite that triumphant moment, he faced a challenge as he was slipping down the leaderboard by Sunday. Competing against him were former NHL player Joe Pavelski, ex-US Men’s soccer star Taylor Twellman, country music artist Jake Owen, and Carolina Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen.
This tournament has been a staple for over three decades, employing a 54-hole Stableford format. In this system, golfers accumulate points based on their scores on each hole, with the highest total winning. Additionally, the tournament raises funds for local charities.
Last year, former tennis player Mardy Fish took home the championship.
