President Joe Biden appeared sleepy and closed his eyes for about 80 seconds during a summit in Angola on Wednesday.
Biden briefly closed his eyes as the summit members talked about rail in Africa.
During his visit, Biden pledged to give African countries $2.5 billion in taxpayer funding for a rail corridor that would cut through the continent.
“Mr. President, I'm coming back to ride the train end to end,” Biden told Angolan President Joao Lorenzo. “I love trains, so I'm coming back. You're sticking with me.
“Africa has been left behind for too long. But that's no longer the case. Africa is the future,” Biden added.
But twice during Wednesday's summit, Biden closed his eyes for at least a minute.
“At one point, his hand twitched and he dropped something,” the Daily Mail reported. reported.
This isn't the first time Biden has appeared to nod during a meeting. In 2021, Biden appeared to be asleep during his opening speech at the Cop26 summit in Glasgow.
In early July, Biden said He told governors he needed more sleep and planned to schedule events only before 8 p.m.
“I'm fine,” Biden joked, “but you don't know about my brain.”
Biden withdrew from the presidential race on July 21st.
