The following content will look like this Americans for limited government.
President Donald Trump is right: Joe Biden broke Medicare. Under Biden's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), seniors and patients will pay higher premiums and out-of-pocket costs for less health insurance. Trump must end Biden's midnight Medicare rule by February 1st. Failure to do so would trigger obligations that could destroy Medicare's general Part D program.
Biden was a disaster from his first day in office to his last day in office. In a cynical last-minute move before leaving office, his administration is putting IRA price controls on 15 prescription drugs. This is not about helping the elderly. It was about clinging to the Trump administration with burdensome regulations before he was sworn in as president. Biden bureaucrats rushed through this broken rule and set Medicare up for failure during Trump's term. Trump has until February 1st to freeze implementation to stop the damage. Otherwise, the rules create obligations that make rollbacks difficult.
Make no mistake: Biden's IRA price controls will hurt seniors and many Americans who need these treatments. Like the price control proposals during Kamala's failed campaign, these price controls are set by bureaucratic mandates, enforcing a 95% tax on non-compliant companies. even washington post I realized how bad these price controls are. “It's hard to overstate how bad this policy is. It's a series of government-enforced price controls across every industry, not just food, in all but name. Supply and demand are Washington bureaucracies are far away. At best, this will lead to shortages, black markets, and hoarding, among other distortions seen before. We tried to limit the growth in prices due to
To make matters worse, our government's vast health bureaucracy does not have adequate systems in place to control drug prices or ensure that pharmacies are reimbursed correctly. Local pharmacies have already said they will not be able to provide the drugs when the program begins in 2026. According to the survey, more than 90% of independent pharmacists say they don't have the resources to handle the change.
Biden's IRA has already caused Medicare Part D premiums to skyrocket. The IRA lowered a senior's out-of-pocket cost from about $3,300 to $2,000 by shifting responsibility for the $1,300 difference to the insurance company. That sounds great, but insurance companies impose costs on consumers through higher premiums and limited access to prescription drugs. This year, Medicare Part D premiums are increasing by more than 20% for more than 50 million Americans enrolled. Seniors are paying more and taxpayers are also on the hook for higher subsidies for these plans. The Congressional Budget Office says the IRA drug rule alone will increase Medicare costs by up to $20 billion in 2025.
Thankfully, Trump is just getting started. He has already reversed many of Biden's disastrous orders and rules. After his first few days, Trump canceled 78 of Biden's “unpopular, inflationary, illegal, and radical” executive orders. He froze spending on the IRA program to protect Americans from implementation of these deep state regulations.
Joe Biden broke Medicare, but Donald Trump can fix it. With Trump's leadership, premiums will fall, seniors will have more plan options, and Medicare will work better for everyone. Trump could start by freezing Biden's IRA drug rules by the end of this week.
