Vice President Kamala Harris continues to tour sex podcastleft-wing late-night show hosts, and other friendly media outlets, but one prominent Democrat, Joe Biden himself, may be wavering in his support.
That's half-joking, but it makes sense. The current occupant of the Oval Office is still in good spirits and feels very fired up for the party. How is that emotion expressed? According to the D.C. rumor mill, he personally believes he was the first person to defeat former President Donald Trump and therefore was the right candidate to win again. In public, you can see it in his daily life. He's not singing from the same Kamala songbook as the rest of the party.
“She's played a major role in everything we've done,” Biden told reporters.
The latest episode began on Monday, when Biden stomped on the Harris campaign's talking points that Florida's Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis didn't return his calls and turned the incoming super hurricane into a partisan issue. That night, Harris' nominal boss tweeted A photo of him on the phone said he had spoken with DeSantis and that “my administration stands ready to support both our leaders and Floridians with additional resources they need.” .
Notice the “my” in “my management.” He has no interest in sharing Harris' accomplishments or putting her in office before she wins the election. Nor is he interested in supporting Ms. Harris in a political battle with one of the country's top Republicans as she prepares the state for the storm.
And Biden wasn't finished. As Harris appeared on “The View” Tuesday morning, blaming partisan “misinformation” for thousands of North Carolinians outraged by federal inaction in the wake of the hurricane, she 's boss held an unusual (and dueling) press conference. He dismissed a reporter's question about whether Republicans were playing politics by storm. respond: “The governor of Florida has been cooperative.”
Mr. Biden continued:
He said he got everything he needed. I talked to him again yesterday and I said I know you're doing a great job. It's all going well, we're grateful for it, and I literally gave him my personal phone number to call, so I don't know — some places We had a tough start, but every governor from Florida to North Carolina has been fully cooperative and supportive and recognizes the efforts of this team and they're doing a great job. But there is still much work to be done.
This wasn't the first time Biden has scheduled an event over the past week surrounding Harris' media blitz. On Friday afternoon, he held a surprise press conference for the Hurricanes.cast a shadow” At the vice president's Detroit rally, she was working to appeal to the type of union voters she has struggled to gain support from.
While the hurricane is definitely big news, it's worth noting that Biden has held very few press conferences since taking office. It's intentional to keep the two in a row because people don't expect him to be front and center anymore. That's not all. During the press conference, he hugged Harris as close as possible to the unpopular administration.
“She's played a major role in everything we've done,” he told reporters. And she has been, and her staff is interlocking with my staff on everything that we're doing. ”
Except perhaps for this part, Harris and others are trying to distance themselves from the past three and a half years, painting her candidacy as a break from the past.
And, minus the timing part, Biden rained on her parade twice in less than a week. To be fair, she's not very good at distancing herself from the regime when put on the spot.
But she's not wearing a MAGA hat and smiling broadly, either.
