President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address last week failed to improve his popularity among Americans on important issues, a new ABC News/Ipsos poll found Sunday. Therefore, his campaign received no impetus for the 2024 presidential election.
He said Biden’s approval ratings “are unchanged” on key issues in 2024: the economy, crime, Hamas’ war and the war in Ukraine. poll found:
- Economy: 36% support
- Crime: 35% support
- Hamas: 30% support
- Ukraine: 41 percent support
Biden’s speech was unpopular among independents, with many calling it angry, partisan and offensive. Thirty-six percent of independents said his performance was poor or as expected. Only 25% said their performance exceeded expectations.

Some political commentators believe Biden’s speech should have included an appeal to independents. But he appears to have turned that direction to the far left in order to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination. Polls so far have shown the president has limited support within his party.
Polls show former President Donald Trump performed better than Biden on many important issues. “Trump’s approval ratings during his presidency were higher than Biden’s on four of the seven issues they rated: the economy, inflation, and immigration,” the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border, and crime. ”
Opinion polls also showed that Mr. Trump has a better approval rating among each party than Mr. Biden.
The main difference between the two is their basic method of evaluating work. Trump’s approval rating among Republicans has increased on many issues (ranging from the mid-70s to 90% depending on the issue) and Biden’s approval rating among Democrats on the same issues (ranging from 59% to 70%). (mid % range).
A plurality of Americans (36%) say they trust Trump more than Biden (33%) to lead the country. 30% had no commitment.
