Burrow Optimistic About Bengals’ Offseason Strategies
Joe Burrow, the 29-year-old quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, is feeling optimistic about the team’s offseason developments and has lofty ambitions for the coming season.
He expressed his appreciation for the front office’s efforts to enhance the defense through free agency. “This is the most talented roster we’ve had since I’ve been here,” Burrow noted during a press conference. “The front office has created excitement not just among fans but also in the media. We can leave all that behind now.”
He highlighted the significant moves made this offseason, including the signing of safety Brian Cook, defensive end Boi Maffet, and defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, along with the trade for Dexter Lawrence. “They made it happen in free agency,” Burrow emphasized. “Making a trade like that is rare in the NFL, so it’s really exciting to see.”
Burrow, a three-time Pro Bowler, emphasized the importance of winning this year. “We’re going to win a lot of games, play well, and aim for the Super Bowl,” he mentioned. Interestingly, he stated that he hasn’t pushed the front office for any specific changes after last season’s disappointing 6-11 record.
Reflecting on the offseason, Burrow said, “We communicated a lot during free agency. But we didn’t have any postseason meetings, which was different. I think we were less involved than usual.”
Last season, the Bengals missed the playoffs for the third consecutive year, largely due to their poor defense, which allowed an average of 28.9 points per game, ranking among the worst in the league.
“We know where we need to improve, and we’ve addressed some of those issues,” Burrow remarked. “Bringing in the best free-agent safety and what I believe is the top defensive tackle means we are well-equipped. Now, we just need to get to work.”
There seems to be a revitalized energy within the locker room. Burrow described the atmosphere, saying, “It’s evident that the past few years haven’t gone as planned, and I take my share of responsibility for that. But we’re in a good position this year. We’ve added talented players, and you can feel the positive energy. Veteran players are stepping in to guide the younger ones on defense, showing them what it takes to excel every day. It’s thrilling to be part of this.”
