Donald Trump should pardon Joe Maldonado, known as Joe Exotic, who appeared on Netflix's hit pandemic-era show “Tiger King,” lawyers say.

At a news conference Thursday, Mr. Maldonado's attorney argued that Mr. Maldonado did not hire anyone to kill anyone. They added that Netflix took the “murder for hire” angle because it was more interesting than making a regular documentary.
In 2019, Maldonado was convicted of two counts of attempted murder in the plot to kill Carole Baskin and sentenced to 22 years in prison. In 2021, his sentence was reduced to 21 years in prison.
Baskin, who also starred in Tiger King, had a complicated rivalry and long-running feud with Maldonado that began in 2009.
Maldonado denied allegations that he hired a hitman to kill Baskin.
His team insists all Mr. Trump needs to do is look at the facts.
“Today's timing is important because Joe wants President Trump, who has spoken out on this matter in the past, to hear these facts again and bring his plight to the public's attention,” said attorney Levi G. Mr. McCathern said.
“We directly ask President Trump: Please listen in the court of public opinion and release Joe Exotic. He should not go to prison,” Macassan continued. “This is a man who doesn't deserve to be there. He didn't do what he was convicted of. He asked for a new trial and was denied. At least you have that right. There has to be. Look at the evidence for yourself and decide for yourself.”
Maldonado petitioned for a pardon during President Trump's first term. His lawyers hope Trump will be more sympathetic this time.
