Joe Gruters: 'The Left Has Shifted So Much That the Candidate No Longer Matters'

During a recent interview, Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters expressed his views on the current political landscape, claiming “the left is the far left” and suggesting that candidate selection matters less now. This discussion took place on Breitbart News Daily, particularly focusing on the potential success of Abdul El-Sayed, a left-wing Muslim candidate for the Michigan State Senate.

Host Mike Slater questioned Gruters about the possible implications of El-Sayed’s success, especially considering the growing number of socialist Democrats in areas like New York.

“It’s a factor. Even if we aren’t discussing El-Sayed specifically, the left has drifted too far. The candidate’s identity is becoming less significant,” Gruters responded.

He continued, “While Mr. El-Sayed has a notable past, both he and his opponent are problematic. They would pose challenges for any president wanting to implement their agenda. So really, the candidate doesn’t concern me much.”

Yet, Gruters remained optimistic about Republicans defeating El-Sayed.

“We must rally behind Mike Rogers. Winning the midterms is crucial… Not winning is simply not an option. We need more MAGA advocates everywhere because, honestly, it’s imperative we win. If we can’t pass the American Rescue Act or eliminate the filibuster, we risk losing everything when they take charge,” he explained, emphasizing the urgency for Republicans to seize this chance.

“We have various strategies in place,” he maintained. “Winning is essential.”

Gruters went on to discuss the Georgia race, outlining the party’s efforts to support Republican candidate Mike Collins.

“We will collaborate with Mr. Collins, but keep in mind, Mr. Ossoff has $80 million at his disposal. We’re working hard to fundraise and assist Mr. Collins, but it’s undeniably a tough campaign. Georgia is perceived as a Republican stronghold,” he stated.

“This isn’t an easy win. It’s not a straightforward shot. It’s like making a three-pointer. We absolutely need to win… We have solid candidates, but unity is vital now. The Michigan and New Hampshire races, along with other competitive contests—supporting candidates early on allows us to build substantial resources to challenge the opposition,” he added, mentioning the unique circumstances surrounding Georgia’s delayed primary.

He acknowledged the possibility of winning a seat later, but noted that it would require “a lot of effort.”
