Joe Manchin endorsed Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.

Hogan is currently running for U.S. Senate from Maryland.

“Larry Hogan is truly the right person with the right attitude for the job,” Manchin said.

The Hill reported:

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) endorsed former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R-Maryland) and his campaign for the state's U.S. Senate seat, saying he is “exactly the right person for the job.”

Manchin, a former moderate Democrat who ran as an independent this year, expressed enthusiasm for Hogan's campaign and his embrace of moderate politics during this election cycle.

“Forget Democrat or Republican, Larry Hogan is exactly the right person with the right attitude for the job,” Manchin said, according to DC News Now.

Speaking in Hagerstown, Maryland, Manchin said Hogan would not be swayed “by any party or any ideology.”

The race may turn out to be more competitive than expected.

National Review reported:

Maryland's senatorial race has not received much attention from the national media in recent months. Perhaps this is because it is a presidential election year and many reporters assume that Alsobrooks will win Cardin's seat, as Joe Biden won the state by 33 points in 2020. However, on a flight back from the Democratic Convention in Chicago last month, I sat next to a person deeply involved in Maryland Democratic politics, who told me that the race was expected to be very competitive there. He told me that many voters know Alsobrooks' track record, consider him sincere, and are considering supporting him as a check against the Trump-centered Republican Party. Hogan is certainly behind, but Manchin's support will not be decisive. Alsobrooks may be well-funded, but he may not be well-known outside of Prince George's County.
