John Fetterman Warns Democrats that Donald Trump Is Far More Popular in Pennsylvania than They Think

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) warned Democrats that former President Donald Trump is more popular in Pennsylvania than they realize. “Trump is going to get stronger. [in Pennsylvania]We have to respect that,” Fetterman said.

Asked at the 2024 Atlantic Festival what “it is that they see in Pennsylvania voters, people they grew up with, their friends” that makes them want to vote for Donald Trump, Fetterman said he knows people who are “appalled by some of this” and yet will still vote for Trump.

“And I never agreed with our approach of talking about him being a 'convicted felon,'” Fetterman continued. “I mean, the Democratic Party is a party that values second chances, and I don't think we would condemn somebody based on a mistake or any of those circumstances.”

“I was also confident that a trial or anything like that would not affect that,” the senator added. “What's left? He's been impeached twice. And now there have been two assassination attempts, one with an actual bullet hitting him.”

Fetterman added, “I want people to understand: This is not science, but there is energy in Pennsylvania, there is anger on the ground, people are very engaged and Trump is going to be strong. We have to respect that.”

“You can't even understand it, and it's not like there's any science that can explain it, but you have to know it's real,” Fetterman warned.

Pennsylvania seems particularly worrying to Trump's running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, who has recently begun claiming that she has never called for a ban on fracking, despite explicitly calling for an end to the practice during her 2019 presidential run.

When asked by CNN's Wolf Blitzer in early September about Harris' shift on fracking, Fetterman sidestepped the question by saying, “Let's talk about Trump,” adding that fracking “is not going to be the defining issue of this election.”
