John Ondrasik Thinks the Music Industry Let Down Hamas Hostages by Not Calling for Their Release After October 7

John Ondrasik’s Views on Artist Responses to Hostage Situations

Singer-songwriter John Ondrasik, known for his Oscar-nominated work, recently shared in an interview that the world’s prominent artists could have played a vital role in advocating for the hostages held by Hamas if they had spoken out following the events of October 7th.

During his conversation with Breitbart News at the Republican Jewish Coalition, Ondrasik drew parallels between the reactions of artists after the September 11 attacks and the more muted response to the recent attacks in Israel.

“After 9/11, nearly every major celebrity stood up to support America, performing at Madison Square Garden and other venues to denounce Osama bin Laden. But after October 7, we heard nothing,” he remarked. “It baffles me. It’s really a reflection of the world’s current state.”

He elaborated on how crucial it is for art to highlight issues of human rights, emphasizing that it is disappointing that there hasn’t been a more vocal stance for the hostages.

“From events like Live Aid to Concerts for New York, many artists have historically taken on the role of human rights advocates. Their silence right now is quite striking,” he stated.

Ondrasik added, “Imagine if, on October 8, 2023, artists had rallied to say, ‘Free the hostages,’ and performed ‘We Are the World’ in support. If they had made such a stand, we might be witnessing a different narrative today. The BBC, for instance, would not simply echo Hamas’s voice, although uncertainty still lingers in campus communities.”

“The decline of artistic engagement is a significant factor in our cultural deterioration, and as an artist, I find that really disheartening,” he concluded.
