Jon Hamm Talks About His New Show
In a recent chat with Radio Andy, Jon Hamm, the 55-year-old actor, opened up about his role in the Apple TV+ series “Your Friends and Neighbors.” He specifically addressed a scene where his butt was notably visible for the first six and a half minutes.
“I think that’s really my butt,” Hamm remarked, quite candidly. When asked by hosts Andy Cohen and Jonah Hill about his preparations for that scene, he joked that he didn’t do much, adding that he counted on post-production to tidy things up during editing.
Reflecting on his career, Hamm reminisced about his early struggles after moving to Los Angeles. He shared how he went through countless auditions, often receiving callbacks, yet still feeling like opportunities were just out of reach. “I wasn’t working, but I had millions of auditions,” he shared. It’s kind of fascinating, the journey from auditions to being recognized on screen—it’s a mix of persistence and, perhaps, a little luck.
Hamm elaborated on his experiences in Hollywood, emphasizing that sometimes the industry makes sense, while at other times, it feels random. “It takes a lot of depth to do anything in this business,” he clarified, suggesting that resilience is key.
Eventually, of course, he struck gold with his role as Don Draper on “Mad Men,” which really put him on the map. He landed that part at 35, and boy, did it change everything for him. Over seven seasons, he garnered numerous nominations and awards, including some Emmys and Golden Globes. He even noted, somewhat reflectively, how his early life—losing his parents when he was quite young—shaped his perspective, making him look older than he was at the time.
Now, many years into his career, Hamm often refers to himself as a late bloomer. He mentioned how, while his friends were achieving milestones, he felt like he was lagging behind. It’s interesting; in a world that often glorifies youth and early success, he seems to find solace in the slow-and-steady approach.
Hamm shared some insights about working in restaurants before acting, saying it provided him valuable life lessons. There’s something to be said for that, right? The idea that service—even in acting—demands kindness and understanding of people’s struggles. He reflected on how such experiences highlight the importance of empathy, not just on set but in life generally.
Recently, he also found himself becoming a meme from his show, where he was humorously captured swaying at a club scene. “It’s a bit wild,” he said with a chuckle, recalling how a friend, Brian Williams, first alerted him about this online sensation. It’s kind of funny how things can go viral; sometimes you just can’t predict what will resonate with people.
On a personal note, Hamm married actress Anna Osceola in June 2023, and they actually met on the set of “Mad Men.” Their relationship has been under the radar for a while but became public in 2020. Now, they’re working together again on the show, which he mentioned has been a fun experience.
Overall, it seems like Hamm’s journey in Hollywood is filled with ups and downs, not to mention a deep understanding of both the art and the human experiences behind it.
